#TipsTuesday – 3 reasons you should NOT sleep with a phone or tablet in your bed.
- The activities on your phone or tablet are created for the express reason to keep you engaged. The addictive behavior of social media, games, streaming video, and online gambling is a leading cause of sleep deprivation.
- According to PBS.org article siting 2 independent studies. Adolescents are sleeping less than 7hrs per night due primarily to mobile phone activities, at this age teens should be sleeping at least 9hrs per night. The linked studies were completed in 2015. So you can imagine how much worse it is now after going through Covid-19 and online schooling.
- The blue light emitted by smartphones and tablets simulates daylight. This inhibits the brain’s production of melatonin, the hormone that helps us fall asleep and stay asleep.
- FIRE – bedroom fires from faulty wires or cell batteries is of growing concern as more people take their devices into bed at night.
